James (Matt) Gilkeson

Matt has 15 years of IT leadership, focusing on coalition building, change management and team engagement to achieve delivery goals. In 2024 he became chief technology/data officer at TSA, overseeing data governance and technology innovation. From 2019-2023 he directed the Innovation Task Force (ITF), deploying over 170 automated screening lanes, boosting efficiency by 30% and saving US$120m in federal budget. Matt has received two DHS Secretary's Awards for his work at TSA.

The Smart Security Management Group (SSMG) is an international group of regulators, airport operators and government stakeholders who collaborate to drive innovation through aviation security screening technologies and processes, with the aim of raising standards across the globe.
