Ensuring airport compatibility of aircraft powered by alternative aviation fuels
The presentation will highlight the initiatives Airbus has taken and the joint work that is currently being performed by industry stakeholders to ensure the readiness of airports and other key players for the introduction of aircraft powered by alternative fuel types (mainly hydrogen and electricity). An insight will be provided on the possible impacts on airport operations and infrastructure, preparation for the regulatory changes that will be needed within the ICAO framework, handling of the large quantities of alternative fuels that will be required and the development of ground handling equipment for these alternative fuels.
The audience will learn:
- What is put in place to ensure airport compatibility of aircraft powered by alternative fuels
- How alternative fuels will impact airport operations and infrastructure and how collaboration can solve these challenges
- Changes that are required within the ICAO framework to facilitate the introduction of aircraft powered by alternative fuels
- Challenges that airports will face in handling large quantities of alternative fuels and industry initiatives to tackle potential issues
- How ground handling equipment needs to be adapted or newly designed for integration into existing and future airports
