Day - 3 - Increasing airport capacity and flexibility - 10:00 - 10:25

Safeguarding check-in capacity and passenger experience within the build-cost envelope

Part of the infrastructure development plan of Auckland Airport is the integration of the domestic jet terminal with the international terminal. To handle the increase in demand and maintain a high level of customer experience, a multi-phased check-in expansion and refurbishment project has started. Due to the considerable impact on build cost, a thorough evaluation of potential implementation options is needed. With the help of demand-based capacity planning and optimization software, the most suitable option in terms of cost versus capacity could be identified. In addition, disruption scenarios were addressed to understand the implications for passenger flow and service levels.

The audience will learn:

  • How to identify the check-in development option that provides the best tradeoff between capex and achievable service levels
  • How common-use self-service check-in technology helps to maximize the capacity of existing infrastructure
  • Key inputs required for check-in capacity planning
  • Importance of understanding the implications of certain disruption scenarios for passenger flow and service levels
  • Capacity-driven approach to staged check-in common-use on-boarding during construction staging while safeguarding service level
